CAPTAIN BABY

Waiting and onesies

April 3, 2016

The early stages of labour are happening and things have been progressing slowly and steadily, but all this waiting moves like chilled honey. Sweet and slow. I expect when the time actually comes we will reminisce on this calm quietness and wonder why we vanquished it with so much expectancy.

Our bags are packed and ready to go. It is hard to believe that we are going to have a miniature human body to clothe in these tiny onesies soon.

It is even harder to believe that a brand new life is going to be entrusted into my/our fulltime care.

I find it difficult to adult properly on most days. In our home no human or pet can yawn within close proximity without me quickly darting my finger into their open mouth. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.

I wake up with hair like a peacock and sometimes leave it like that for many hours. I struggle loading stemware into the dishwasher. How can I be trusted with a floppy teeny human?

Even though I am mostly a successful, functioning member of modern society, it is hard not to feel like a complete fumbling fraud when faced with the upcoming challenge of caring for a new being.

I hope our village is ready because basically we are blissfully aware that we have no idea what we are getting ourselves into.

I guess blissful unawareness is the first step of parenting.

Hopefully our baby really loves to yawn a lot.

Claudine looks so lovely. Tracy you look mad. Poor daughter to come. Still, her Auntie Trudy will balance things up. And plenty of us older generation too…..

I am so excited for you both. You will do just fine. Babies do not come with specific instructions simply because each one is completely unique
