CAPTAIN BABY

More Waiting…

April 6, 2016

Waiting to have a baby is like being packed and ready for a trip, except you have no clue when the flight actually leaves. You just have to make sure you somehow show up on time.

Contractions started in earnest last night.
(In Ernest Hemingway? Yes, just like that.)

So far the contractions are reasonably spaced out by about 20 mins and Claudine is managing them like a champ. I am managing them with the helplessness of seeing someone you love in discomfort. I am, however, excellent at fetching hot water bottles and serenading her with Toni Braxton songs. Except the only song I know is Unbreak My Heart. And these are no longer simply Toni Braxton Hicks.

The contractions need to be longer in duration and closer together to warrant us going to the hospital. I got an app to record the contractions. I can manage things better when I have an app for it.

Waiting to have Open Heart surgery was exhausting and taxing. But this expectancy makes that all pale in comparison.

Last year my heart felt fluttery and anxious waiting to have my surgery.
Now I feel like it is drifting around me on a string.
Hovering in weighted anticipation.
