HEART SURGERY

triathlon sign up!

March 24, 2015

My heart is healing like a champ, so I figured the most logical thing for me to do is a Triathlon. My doctors have given me the all clear, now I just have to get my body to agree.
I have officially signed up for my (first ever) race. It is a VERY mini version held over on Toronto Island.  I am filled simultaneously with excitement and dread – if only for the fact that I will briefly be swimming in cold, sometimes toxic waters of Lake Ontario.

If you have any interest in a goal like this you should sign up. We can be a team. I will make us matching bedazzled, jaunty swimming costumes and leggings. I clearly have no clue how any of this works and I entered my “Champion Chip Number” as chocolate chip. So obviously this is going to be awesome!

Here we go goooaaaaaals!!!

I hope your training is going well! I had my valve replacement surgery about 2 weeks before you, and I also came to the conclusion that I should do a sprint triathlon to celebrate my new heart valves! My event is August 2, and training is a humbling experience and sometimes I wonder whether this was a mid-life crisis impulse? Regardless, I am very happy to see you are out there with me in this craziness. I haven’t yet purchases a bike. I’ve never swum 300 yards or one yard in the ocean. I can run but need to get through the swim and bike portion to get there… quite a road ahead of me these upcoming 10 weeks! Nothing compared to the road behind us though! Here’s my theme song for training: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IBCc72M8lNI
    All my best to you!
