HEART SURGERY

Pacemaker wires are assholes.

January 18, 2015

My external pacemaker wires were just removed. The benign assumption that these wires are casually attached to the skin surface with some simple adhesive tape was evidentially as wrong as assuming Dr. Seuss and Stephen King write the same kind of books. There were two long wires deeply imbedded into the skin and heart area. If anyone needs to know the definition of ‘grossest feeling ever’ I can tell you. While the sensation and audio that came along with the drainage tube removal was possibly worse experientially overall, the feeling of these two little wires being pulled out was something that I will happily spend the rest of my times trying to not experience again.

I will again save the juicy details for the book, but for now at least another necessary evil is over and I have to focus on healing.

The doctor was a kind, professional and lovely man, but I did want to horribly disfigure his sweet face by the end of it. I asked him if he ever needed those sorts of wires to be removed from his chest to call me anytime.

Ugh, ugh, Tracy. Too much in such a short time. But onwards and homewards hopefully soon.

I’m sure OUCH isn’t even enough to express the yuckiness of that. I’m sure glad it’s over for you. I’m in the ‘waiting room’ and you are my role model when it comes to keeping a positive attitude and sence of humor through OHS. You make me smile amidst the pain that I know you are going through. Love ya!

I didn’t think there could be anything funny about drainage tubes and chest wires, but…you found a way. I do remember (how could I forget) my husband saying that having the tubes removed felt like his “guts being pulled out”, but I really didn’t think you needed to hear that before-hand since it’s not exactly optional. So, yay to another yucky thing over with, and keep on winning at this healing thing!
