It’s sometimes too easy to visit somewhere familiar and let complacency and inertia dictate your time.
We took a tour of the Caroni Mangroves and Swamp on this visit to Trinidad to experience the Scarlet Ibis, our national bird come to roost at sunset – something that I have not taken the time to do for many, many years. To simply say it was beautiful would fail every magical feather and twisting vine of the experience.
Sprawling mangrove roots were peppered with wildlife and oysters clinging to their muddy thighs. They hung above the water as if suspended in a world of impossible opposites.
The magnificence of the natural beauty and awe churning power of this place is something very special.
It reminded me of the potential power of appreciation that we humans all have. Too often we just forget to step out of our routines, out of our fears and out of the boxed spaces we build in our minds.
Scarlet fluorescent coloured birds don’t roost daily at every sunset in the world. But somewhere, at sometime, something exquisite is happening around you, just take the time to look around.
Also go visit the Caroni Swamp, that place is all shades of awesome.

Thanks for sharing this wonderful experience , what an awesome sight !!
This is pretty awesome Tracey. I spent half my life in Trinidad but I do not remember ever visiting the Caroni Swamp.
thank you tracy for sharing.
there is a mangrove swamp in dominican republic that i visited, but nothing compared to this one in trini!
but once you come out of the mangroves, there are tiny pelicans roosting on old, rusty “once wanted to be a railway across the bay” installation and that was quite a sight!
i wish you all the best for your upcoming heart affair.
big hug and a happy new year
